Uterine Fibroids

Uterine Fibroids

Are uterine fibroids and endometriosis the same?  While both are gynecologic conditions that may cause similar symptoms, they are two completely different issues that women can face.

Like endometriosis, uterine fibroids affect the uterus and can have the same pain tendencies in women.  Uterine fibroids are benign (non-cancerous), smooth muscular tumors that appear around the uterus.

Some common symptoms of uterine fibroids include:

  • Painful periods
  • Cramps
  • Bloating
  • Painful intercourse
  • Infertility

There are a few different types of fibroids, classified by their location, and they can grow in clusters of multiple fibroids, or large enough to cause visible swelling in the abdomen. Even though fibroids affect about 70% of women, in most cases, fibroids don’t case any problems at all.
